Calm yourself and listen. Irrationality, when the sun shines, do you wait for me in the dark? People are just people. Why do you make them so much more? You’re quick to flare, you are. Ever defensive. Stop panicking and be a bit smarter. My mind is your tool – use it for good instead of recklessly spending its creativity on dark imaginings, of all the imaginings you can choose.
We live in a world full of what you are looking for.
I cannot let this escape me. I love the whispers of my surroundings that welcome me back to consciousness when I’ve been living in my head for too long. ‘Welcome,’ they say, ‘we’ve been preparing.’
‘For what?’
‘For you to WAKE UP… We have everything ready. Tons of lovely people ready to meet you, places to explore, things to try, stuff to learn. We’ve also checked out some of your skills and talents. You’ll probably wanna get busy on those too. I hope you don’t mind but we had to step in on some of your meals and a few conversations you’ve had recently.’
‘Ah, I don’t remember those.’
‘Listen, you might want to consider not being absent so often. We can handle most things but you’re really missing out here. What you look for comes by so often. This is a world full of funny, silly, smart, crazy people.’
I have been to a handful of countries. Mostly African, and the others, I was too young to remember. But I hold a normal moment precious where I experienced an impulse of delight, at a café in Hsinchu. I am grateful for this opportunity to speak to people who are different to what I’ve known. There are so many subtleties, we as humans convey and I enjoy the challenge of understanding them. When I speak about this moment, I can’t thank it in isolation because there have been so many. The true sounds and smells of being on an airplane, of waking up at 3am to see a plane asleep and the sun rising above the clouds, the sound of rolling wheels on an airports smooth floors, buses, trains, a mess of documents, photographs, days with wonderful people on crazy journeys.
